The girls who are a full U11s team playing in an u12s County Cup bagged a place in the last 4 in an exciting and entertaining team game between two evenly matched sides.
Whitehaven to begin with set off in the most perfect way, with Hannah Nicholson who would get Girl of the Game from both Moor Row & Whitehaven coaches, scoring within seconds of the KO. However this great early start wasn’t a sign of things to come, and it was actually Moor Row who looked the more dangerous to score, with the Whitehaven team struggling to cope with some good throw ins and balls over the top, with some cases 4v2 situations occurring and the warning weren‘t recognised as Moor Row equalised 1-1.
Immediately Whitehaven hit back, Angel Dockerty playing centrally and working extra hard got the ball on her wand of left foot and smashed it home to make it 2-1. Angel played an amazing part in the victory all day, always working hard and always good range of passing and shooting.
Whitehaven were looking better now, Molly Barwise as striker was linking up well and could’ve made it 3-1 after finding good space as a ball came across her at speed and showing great confidence to hit it first time, she was unlucky not to score. At the back the Whitehaven defence were starting to look more solid, Summer Swinton who is a rolls royce of a player was playing out from the back really well, and supporting in attack and showing great confidence on the ball.
However Moor Row would not stop and their defender who was a threat all day with her long balls, smashed a shot from around half way that flew into the corner to make it 2-2.
Macy Williamson entered the fray in defence and as Captain she gave a Captains performance at the back, winning lots of balls in the air but her communication was probably the biggest highlight, all of a sudden the girls had direction from the back as a Macy demanded players into position and once they got there she played lovely passes.
2-2 at Half Time but when the Whitehaven girls came back out they really improved. Lani Fatialofa started to show off her Suarez like skills in defence and this attracted players which she beat and then played out, and her partner in crime in Marcey Nelson on the right wing they started getting lots of joy, Marcey playing some of her best football of the season currently was amazing in not just creating chances but setting up goals as well, she became really to hot to handle.
Soon in Angel Dockerty scored to make it 3-2, now playing out on the left wing in her more natural position was doing great work for the team, linking up especially with our the brains of the team in Olivia Beattie, who just oozes class, and her clever passing and movements were amazing in creating chances including herself to make it 4-2.
Moor Row hit back with numerous attacks and Lily Cameron who made some brilliant saves and was great all game continued to stop Moor Row bringing the game closer.
Angel smashed another to make it 5-2, and the attack’s continued, Brooke Butler & Lexie Roberts really pushing up and making good attacks, both girls dangerous on both sides, and firing shots in that the Moor Row keeper did fantastic to stop. Brooke jist glides across the pitch and her clever passing, good touches and dangerous play were a feature down the wing, and Lexie who is just football mad, and can do great job anywhere was solid at the back and dangerous going forward.
Moor Row grabbed one back to make it 5-3 but just as looked like might be nervy finish, Eden Clark who had found good positions all game, found herself free after a number of shots were saved and controlled the ball well before firing home to settle the game 6-3.
Girl of Game from both teams was Hannah Nicholson.
Coaches Rob Campbell & Gary Barwise said ‘It was a difficult game, Moor Row really pushed us all the way and are a credit to their club. We took a bit of time to really warm up in difficult weather conditions but thankfully we had just enough to get the win. Really got to take our hats off to Hannah Nicholson, a really top talent who is loved by the girls in the team and as coaches we love her Attidude, she will turn any 50/50 ball to 60/40 in her favour and we believe she was the catalyst for us to go on and win the game’
