Lionesses Triumphant At Wildcats Festival!!


The Whitehaven AFC Lionesses went across to compete in the Durham Women FC 2019 Festival this weekend and cane away Winners.


The responsive NDT sponsored Whitehaven AFC Girls traveled through to Durham Women FC to compete in there sister club football festival. A good start to the tournament saw the girls top their group with 2 wins and a draw scoring 5 goals and only conceding 1 in return.


This set up a semi final against Peterlee Helford and Whitehaven got off to a great start with Emi Rudd opening the scoring within the first 2 minutes. A further strike from Rudd was followed by 2 goals from Poppy Fitzwilliam before Grace Houghton scored the fifth, to round off an impressive performance from the Whitehaven Lionesses.



This set up what was to be a tense final between Whitehaven AFC and Blyth Town. Chances where hard to come by and with both teams playing well and proving hard to break down it was no surprise when the game finished 0:0 and went to penalties.


Kaela Reay the Whitehaven goal keeper got her team off to a great start saving the first two penalties and with whitehaven making no mistakes and scoring both there penalties Whitehaven AFC picked up a deserved win, with Jessica Bridgeman picking up Whitehaven player of the tournament award .
