At age 4, Millie Huck had a late diagnosis of developmental hip Dysplasia. Now aged 11, Millie has since undergone 10 operations on her hip and knee, and is still undergoing treatment at Alder Hey Children's Hospital.
Millie's strength has never wavered and her love for football has kept her smiling and determined not to give up. What Millie has achieved to date would not have been possible without the help and support of her coaches and team mates at her Amateur club.
At a recent tournament in Blackpool where Millie was playing for her team, she unfortunately suffered a compound fracture of both her ulna and radius. Millie was informed she would need to have further surgery, but this time to fix her arm.
Following successful surgery and her arm being casted, Millie's recovery was estimated as 10 weeks. For Millie that sadly meant another lengthy period out of football... The thing she loves most.
The following week Millie decided that during this recovery period she would like to keep busy and attempt to maintain her fitness. She set herself the challenge of completing the virtual coast to coast on a stationary bike. This involved virtually cycling 190 miles from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay in 60 days. To motivate her in this challenge Millie decided to raise money to help other children at Alder Hey Children's Hospital who require physio and hydrotherapy, as she has.
Millie not only completed her task, but smashed her £500 target.
Also, an amazing gesture came from a local company, who agreed to match whatever Millie raised.
The Whitehaven Senior Ladies team presented Millie with a training top and some sweets to show they were all behind her. Ladies Captain Niamh Morgan presented the gifts to Millie.
